Dylan Thomas | Original Hand Printed Linocut Print | Love the Words

£50.00

An open edition original linocut hand carved and printed by myself based on the Welsh Poet Dylan Thomas.

Thomas always returned to Wales when he had difficulty writing; John Ackerman argues that “His inspiration and imagination were rooted in his Welsh background”.

Thomas became widely popular in his lifetime and remained so after his premature death at the age of 39 in New York City. By then he had acquired a reputation, which he had encouraged, as a “roistering, drunken and doomed poet”.

I have taken inspiration from these elements of Thomas’ character and paired them with the advice he himself gave to the nervous actors on opening night of his 1953 play ‘Under Milk Wood’, which was to simply ‘love the words’.
